What To Do About Sin!

We have all felt that after doing something wrong, we could keep it a secret and no one would ever find out? In KIDZ VALLEY today we learned that no matter how hard we try to keep our sins a secret they have a way of becoming known?
We used a simple object lesson that showed a truth about sin. We poured cola in a glass. The glass represents us. The soda is where we try to hid sin. We could be by lying, or even not telling what we know. It could be trying to convince ourselves that what we did wasn’t really wrong. Maybe we hurt someone with our words and tried to convince ourselves that they deserve it.
Anyway, after the cola was poured into the glass, we dropped three buttons in. The buttons represented our sin. We actually took a little time to think honestly about our last week, and identify sins in our lives.
Well the buttons went right to the bottom, no one can see them! Success is ours. Oh, but wait! Slowly the buttons rose back up to the top and were seen. Wow, that is a tough truth to have to learn. There is no where we can hide our sins.
Now you may be thinking that your parents still don’t know about something you did wrong. I understand; when I was thirteen I stole five dollars from my mother’s purse. She never found out. So I did hide my sin, right?
Actually, no. That sin really bothered me! Even if my mom didn’t know, my Heavenly Father did know.
So kids see if you can show your parents this object lesson! Tell them how it works. Try to keep the mystery going, act surprised when the buttons rise back up to the top!
Another activity we used to identify sin was a little relay we like to call “DIRTY LAUNDRY”. We had two clotheslines, two baskets of dirty laundry, and plenty of clothespins. On each of the pieces of laundry we had written things that may or may not be sins. Things like; a lie to our teacher, stealing candy from the store, borrowing something without asking, going up the down escalator at the mall, hiding a bad test grade from your parents, being late to church, having a messy room. You get the picture! The kids had to sort the laundry and only hang the sins up on the line!
WE think the kids have a good idea of what a sin is and that they cannot hide it. We finished by remembering another truth, if we are faithful to confess our sins, God is faithful to forgive us of our sins!
